KH’s practice is rooted in social engagement and often draws on autobiographical and archival material to explore broader themes such as sexual assault, violence against women, marginalised identities, disability, and humanity. They aim to provoke honest dialogue and deep reflection through work that is emotionally resonant and thematically bold. They are particularly drawn to formats that subvert passive spectatorship, inviting audiences into intimate, transformative experiences. Their debut performance piece, D E S C E N T—a raw, confessional exploration of memory, discovery, and childhood sexual trauma using mythology as a lense—was performed at the Croydonites Festival in 2022, further developed for SPRINT Festival at Camden People’s Theatre in 2023, commissioned for Croydonites Festival 2023 as part of the London Borough of Culture programme, and taken to FUSE International Festival in 2024.
As KATIA HARLOWX, their musical identity, they blend classical vocal technique with experimental soundscapes to craft atmospheric, genre-defying music. Their narrative-driven songwriting pushes sonic boundaries, offering immersive journeys that captivate listeners and evoke powerful emotional landscapes. Whether on stage or in the studio, KATIA HARLOWX creates evocative experiences that blur the lines between storytelling and sound.
Alongside their artistic practice, KH has nearly a decade of experience in community and socially engaged facilitation, with a multidisciplinary approach that spans poetry, drama, dance, and music. They have worked with groups across the UK, including the City of Sanctuary Women’s Writing Group, The Octagon Theatre in Bolton, and Family of Dramatics in Manchester, Talawa Theatre Company & Legacy Youth Zone. Also working as Young Creative Lead as part of This is Croydon’s London Borough of Culture Programme. Currently, they are focused on co-creation and youth engagement across London, collaborating with organisations to create accessible, inclusive opportunities in the arts.
