This costume design was reflective of the practicality of clothes that need to last through both dance movement and a migration journey. I created large, pleated, wide leg trousers, fastened loosely with a tie and a faux wrap highneck top. Through construction, I was focused on replicating the wear of travel and migration on clothing and focused on distressing and wearing the fabric down. Using earth tones/colours to reflect themes of journey, place and connection to the earth. This project enabled me to explore my practice through the creation of 3 costumes from start to finish. It was also a pleasure to be part of such an important piece that speaks of issues that are so important in today’s world.
